Interview With Sam

Do I need to be fit and flexible to train Jiu-Jitsu?

You do not need to be fit to start, but you need to start to be fit! Training Jiu-Jitsu will dramatically increase your overall fitness levels and flexibility, but this is not a necessity starting out.

What should I wear?

Just come along in some comfortable gym clothes that you don’t mind getting sweaty in, shorts and a T-shirt will do fine. We will provide a Gi (Unifrom) that you can borrow during training.

Is there a wide range of ages in your classes?

Yes! We have Children’s and Teens classes for kids aged 4-17. Our adults classes have people of all ages and gender from 18 upwards.

Is there a belt system?

Yes, in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu there are five belts up to and including the Black Belt. White, Blue, Purple, Brown and Black. There are also four individual degrees to each belt, this helps students to see their progress.

There is a different belt system for children. There are five base colours, each having three levels, along with individual degrees. Children are awarded for their hard work, effort and behaviour, on and off the mats.

Do I, or does my child have to take part in regular gradings?

Here at Gracie Barra Yeovil we do not hold regular gradings. We may promote individuals at Seminars or special events, but mostly, students are promoted in class, once they have earnt it. We will closely monitor your/their overall performance, factors such as ability, attendance and attitude all count towards your or your child’s promotions.

I’m interested in training/enrolling my child in Jiu-Jitsu, but I’m not quite sure if it will suit me/my child. Can I sample your classes?

Of course you can! Here at Gracie Barra Yeovil we run ‘Free Trial Sessions’ for children and a whole ‘Two Weeks Free Training’ for adults and teens. We believe that you/your child will really enjoy training Jiu-Jitsu with us and would like to invite you to take advantage of our sample classes, simply fill in the form at the top of this page.

Myself/My child has tried Martial Arts before and didn’t enjoy it. Should I/they try again?

Yes! Every Martial Arts School is different and perhaps that one just wasn’t right for you/them. There are over 500 Gracie Barra Schools Worldwide, this shows that our curriculum and teaching methods are tried and tested with great success.

I would like to get my child/myself involved in Jiu-Jitsu but I have some questions. Can I call you?
