The summer is well and truly here, we just need some sun! Not to worry, training at Gracie Barra Yeovil continues to be awesome. Here’s what’s been happening and what to look forward to during August…
Dorset and Hants Open 2017
Remember team, registration for the Dorset and Hants BJJ Open is still open until 25th September. Early entry rates are still available.
The event takes place on Saturday 30th September 2017 at Bournemouth Littledown Centre. There is the opportunity to compete in the gi or without the gi in the nogi event.
Again, it would be great to see as many members of the team competing at these events as possible so we can bring a haul of medals back to Gracie Barra Yeovil.
Kids Free Class Pass
Have you got kids at home during the summer holidays? Do you have cousins, nieces, nephews or siblings? We’re now one week in to the school summer holidays, so chances are they starting to get bored already!
Why not get them to come and give Jiu-Jitsu a try? They can try a class completely free, it will give them an outlet for their energy, something to keep their minds occupied and help them make new friends if their school mates are abroad.

LEARNING THE BUTTERFLY WITH THE “RASPBERRY APE”
Just a reminder that on Sunday the 9th of September, Dan Strauss (also known as ‘The Raspberry Ape’) will be on the mats at Gracie Barra Yeovil as part of his 2017 ‘Butterfly Guard Tour’.
Dan is a Black Belt under Roger Gracie. He is a British and English champion at black belt, NAGA elite European champion and a number one ranked black belt by the UKBJJA.
He’s been invited to and competed in the world’s biggest submission grappling tournaments such as Polaris pro, ADCC and the Eddie Bravo Invitational.
This seminar will be a ‘Pre Book Only’ event and the cut off date is the 31st of August and is £40. You will not be able to sign up on the day or after the 31st of August.
Please remember that we do have a limited amount of mat space and will only be able to cater for a certain number of people. To avoid missing out, get yourself booked onto the seminar as soon as possible.
Dan has visited us at Gracie Barra before and everyone had a blast as you can see from the photo below.

Thanks to everyone who attended the first ever Gracie Barra Yeovil BBQ. It was great to see that people were training…despite the rain! Thanks to Mike for helping to organise this. Hopefully we’ll get some sunshine at the next one.
Also, a big thank you to everyone who came along to my birthday celebration. It was great to see you all and I really appreciate it.
These events showthat the club is a great way to meet like minded people and that the friendships made extend beyond the mats. If you know someone you think could benefit from this let them know about our two week free trial on the Gracie Barra Yeovil website.
That’s it for now. I look forward to seeing you all on the mats in August (once I’ve escaped this flamingo)!
