It has been another very busy month at Gracie Barra Yeovil. The team continues to grow bigger and stronger every month. So without further ado, let’s look at what’s been happening in February…

Saturday 11th February saw a large number of the team travel down to Cornwall to fight at the Newquay BJJ Open 2017. This is a well run competition organised by Raphael Dos Santos of Gracie Barra Cornwall.

Overall the team won several gold, silver and bronze medals, finishing 16th out of 45 clubs competing. For a young club like Gracie Barra Yeovil this is a great success!

For many of the students at Gracie Barra Yeovil, it was their first experience of competition. Despite this everyone did an amazing job of representing themselves and the club. Everybody learnt a lot and the support between team members was phenomenal. The next competition is sure to bring even better results now that people have a better idea of what to expect.

Big shout-outs to Phil and Leigh for coaching on the day and Christina for organising accommodation. THANKS GUYS!

As the club continues to grow, more and more classes are being added. This month we’re excited to announce a new Monday morning class at Gracie Barra Yeovil. This runs from 10:00am – 11:00am and is another opportunity for all those with work, study or family commitments to get their BJJ training fix!

Don’t forget to keep checking back as we look to add even more opportunities for training throughout the week and at weekends.

Do you know someone who wants to start BJJ but struggles to find classes that fit in with their schedule? Tell them about GB Yeovil (and don’t forget to let them know about the TWO WEEK FREE TRIAL!)

The new Monday morning class isn’t the only one. Gracie Barra Yeovil are currently offering a new six week “Women In Charge” self-defense course.

These classes will help women learn self-defense, build self-confidence and help develop physical and mental strength. Plus it has the added benefit of helping individuals to lose a few pounds whilst having great fun in the process! What more could you ask for?!

If you have a wife, girlfriend, fiance, sister, mother, aunt, niece, (Gran?! Hey, Jiu-Jitsu for everyone!) or female friend this is a great opportunity to help them to feel safer, more confident, fitter and stronger (both physically and mentally). An excellent gift idea too!

Places are strictly limited so click below to book a place today…

This month we are offering the chance for all students to win themselves a FREE Gracie Barra Rashguard!

To win this awesome prize all you have to do is be the person that takes the most selfies at the gym.

Only one selfie per session though! So there are 26 potential training sessions during March which means; 26 opportunities for a selfie (not including private sessions, the women only course or Future Champions). How many is the maximum? Let’s find out!

In the event of a tie – we’ll see who has “checked in” the most on Facebook at Gracie Barra Yeovil. So check in and look cool in your new rashie.

This month Sam and Prof Richard Weatherall (Gracie Barra Street) took the Gracie Future Champions curriculum to Brookside School in Somerset.

During an assembly Sam and Rich demonstrated the techniques (“games”) that are used during our Future Champions classes. Kids really enjoy this fun and original approach to learning self-defence through play as you can see from some of the pictures below.

If you have a youngster who would like to learn self defence in a fun and supportive atmosphere why not check out our Future Champions programme?

Well, that’s it for this month folks! Don’t forget to check back next month for more news from the (best) and fastest growing club in the UK (probably!)

See you all on the mats in March!
